Description
The Statue of Liberty - 01 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
The Statue of Liberty is located at the entrance to the Hudson River in the middle of Manhattan Bay on the rocky Liberty Island in upstate New York.
It was created by the French Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the collaboration of Gustave Eiffel, who designed the interiors; the statue is made of an internal reticular structure in steel and on the outside covered with 300 copper sheets shaped and riveted together, resting on a gray-pink granite base that has long been thought to be of Sardinian origin, although recent research has denied the origin of the rock from the island of La Maddalena and brought it back to the Stony Creecy quarry in Connecticut.
With its 93 meters of height (including the base), which dominate the entire Manhattan Bay in New York, it is perfectly visible up to 40 kilometers away. It depicts a woman wearing a long toga and proudly holding in her right hand a torch (symbol of the eternal fire of freedom), while in the other she holds a table bearing the date of the American Independence Day (July 4, 1776); at the feet there are broken chains (symbol of liberation from the power of the despotic sovereign) and in the head there is a crown, whose seven points represent the seven seas and the seven continents.
The statue represents the goddess Ragione, whose torch symbolizes Masonic knowledge
