Seattle is a port city on the west coast of the United States of America, the capital of King County, Washington. Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Northwest Pacific region of North America. The city is located on an isthmus between the Strait of Puget and Lake Washington, about 100 miles south of the border between Canada and the United States.
The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers. Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, later known as Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon, on the Exact at Alki Point schooner on November 13, 1851. The settlement was transferred to the eastern shore of the Bay of Elliott is called "Seattle" in 1852, as the Seattle chief of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.
