Ancient Roman Forums in 1550 - 03
by Hieronymus Cook, 1550
The original artwork is in Public Domain, Courtesy of National Gallery of Art, Washington. Our work consisted in increasing the resolution of the scans without decreasing the image quality and in proceeding, where necessary, to correct and improve colors and shadows.
The Imperial Fora consist of a series of monumental fora (public squares), constructed in Rome over a period of one and half centuries, between 46 BC and 113 AD. The forums were the heart of the late Roman Republic and of the Roman Empire.
The Imperial forums are not part of the Roman Forum, which was the public square during the Roman Republic. These forums were the centres of politics, religion and economy in the ancient Rome.
During the early 20th century, Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini decide the revamp the Imperial Fora as part of his campaign to hark back to the great days of Roman and Italian history.
