Supermarine Spitfire - 37 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
The Supermarine Spitfire was a single-engine low-wing single-seater fighter, produced by the British company Supermarine Aviation Works in the 1930s and 1940s. Employed in Europe, North Africa, Australia and Asia, he became one of the symbolic aircraft of the Second World War, above all for his effective and decisive contribution to the victorious English resistance to the German aggression, during the Battle of England and the years of the conflict.
In the Battle of England, he shared with Hawker Hurricane the difficult task of defending the territory from the Luftwaffe attacks. Used by the air forces of many allied countries - such as the Soviet Union, Australia and the United States of America - he was the only allied hunters produced throughout the war.
