Description
Seville, Esperanza de Triana - 02 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
The Virgin of Hope of Triana was delivered in 1816 to the corporation by Juan de Astorga. In 1898 a fire ravaged the altar where this Virgin was in the church of San Jacinto. For that reason, Gumersindo Jiménez de Astorga made a new face and new hands to the Virgin. On the occasion of the Mariana Exposition of 1929 it was restored by Castillo Lastrucci. In 1981 and 1989 it was restored by Luis Álvarez Duarte.
In the last decade of the nineteenth century the Virgin of Hope was accompanied by Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Mary Magdalene forming the mystery of the Sacred Conversation.
The Virgin of Hope was canonically crowned on June 2, 1984 by Archbishop Carlos Amigo Vallejo with bull of Saint John Paul II Previously, the Mayor Manuel del Valle gave the Virgin the Gold Medal of the city.
The basket of the step, with Marian symbols, was made in 1956. The candelabra were made by Emilio García Armenta in 1960. The varales are from Triana Orfebrería from 1988. The mesh canopy embroidered in gold was made by Esperanza Elena Caro in 1971. The roof of the pallium has a center of embroidered green velvet designed by José Recio and embroidered by Sobrinos de Caro.18 The base of the Virgin is by Manuel Villarreal in 1964.
The Virgin has a crown of silver gilded with angels of ivory made by Rafael Barbero in 1963 and another gold made by Francisco Fernandez and Juan Borrero, Orfebreria Triana, between 1983 and 1984.
