Santa Monica is a city in the United States of Los Angeles County in the State of California. The population was 89 736 at the 2010 census. Located on the Santa Monica Bay, it is surrounded by three sides of the city of Los Angeles - Pacific Palisades to the north, Brentwood to the northeast, Sawtelle to the east, Mar Vista to the south. east, and Venice to the south.
For its pleasant climate, Santa Monica became a famous tourist resort at the beginning of the 20th century. The city has experienced a boom since the late 1980s through the revitalization of its central core, significant growth in work and an increase in tourism. The Santa Monica Pier is a popular destination.
The main tourist attraction of Santa Monica, besides the beaches, is the pier (in English Santa Monica Pier), built in 1909. The pier has a Ferris wheel and many other attractions.
The city is crossed by the Third Street Promenade, the only large pedestrian street in the entire Los Angeles area.
Among the most important historic buildings are the town hall: the Santa Monica City Hall in 1938 and the first skyscraper in Santa Monica, the Bay Cities Guaranty Building, an art deco building from 1929.
