Knight Hospitaller by Andrea Mazzocchetti
A Knight Hospitaller while riding, holding the flag of his Order in his hand. The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem was a military Catholic order born during the period of the Crusades in the Holy Land. It was made autonomous in 1113 by Pope Pasquale II. The order was made famous by helping and defending the pilgrims in the Holy Land, as did another important religious religious order of the time, that of the Templars. Once the territories in the Holy Land were lost, the knights of the order took refuge in Rhodes and then moved to Malta, where their naval fleet became increasingly fearsome and powerful. To date, the order is still present in over 110 countries and after abandoning its military character is now dedicated exclusively to helping those in need.
