Description
Colors of Seville - Giralda in Yellow by Andrea Mazzocchetti
An artwork inspired by the famous Giralda in Seville, the bell tower of the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. The tower is actually one of the greatest testimonies of Almohad architecture in Spain and Europe. In fact it is the ancient minaret of the old mosque that was destroyed and replaced by the Gothic cathedral after the reconquest of the city by Ferdinand of Castile in 1248. The minaret was converted into a bell tower in the sixteenth century thanks to an expansion in height of the tower itself . With its 104 meters high at the time of its construction it was the tallest tower in the world. On December 29, 1928, it was declared a National Heritage; since 1987 the building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as an element of the Cathedral.
