On 6 April 2009, the country was hit by the earthquake that brought down the Medici Tower, the symbol of the village, and some houses, damaging many others. Color photos show the parts of the village preserved and the photos in black and white, however, show the parties severely affected by the earthquake, With the skeleton of the now collapsed tower.
